Libya: oil industry losing millions to corruption

Financial and administrative corruption have led to losses in Libya’s oil sector of more than $294 million over the first half of 2025, according to an investigative report based on official data from the Libyan Attorney General’s Office reported by Libya Review on July 5th.
Legal violations include the breaking of public procurement laws, fraudulent accommodation invoices for oil field workers and a security contract where prices were inflated by more than 70%.
Libya’s National Oil Corporation has not issued any official statement on the matter, despite committing to transparency in January 2025.
