French-Algerian arrested in Marrakesh under Interpol orders

On July 8th, Marrakesh police arrested a French national of Algerian origin, following an Interpol notice issued by French judicial authorities, as reported by Hespress on July 9th.
The suspect, aged 44, was arrested after a check of Interpol databases, following a red notice issued by the French judicial authorities, for his presumed involvement in a criminal network dealing in international drug trafficking between 2020 and 2021.
According to the initial findings of the investigation, the arrested foreign national is wanted by the French judicial authorities for his alleged involvement, between 2020 and 2021, in organizing international drug trafficking operations dispatched to south of France.
The suspect was subjected to the extradition procedure, pending his appearance before the public prosecutor’s office. The French security authorities are told to have been alerted of the arrest.
Last month two British nationals were arrested in Agadir, also following an Interpol red notice. Both recent arrests signal a continuation of Morocco’s international security cooperation, and come in advance of the country hosting Interpol’s 93rd session of its General Assembly in November this year.
Furthermore, the suspect’s dual French-Algerian nationality adds a contentious element to the arrest, contributing to the diplomatic animosity between Morocco and Algeria as a result of the Western Sahara dispute.
