Over 20 nations will meet to plan action against Israel

Over 20 nations plan to gather in Bogotá, Colombia to unveil “concrete measures against Israel’s violations of international law,” Middle East Eye reported on July 10th.
Colombia and South Africa will co-host the summit on 15–16th of July, bringing together states aligned through The Hague Group, a coalition formed to pursue coordinated legal and diplomatic action against Israel’s conduct in Gaza.
The Hague Group, launched on January 31st in the Dutch city, includes eight founding members: Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, Honduras, Malaysia, Namibia, Senegal and South Africa.
Roland Lamola, South Africa’s minister of international relations, said: “The Hague Group’s formation in January marked a turning point in the global response to exceptionalism and the broader erosion of international law.” Lamola continued: “That same spirit will animate this Bogotá conference, where the assembled states will send a clear message: no nation is above the law, and no crime will go unanswered.”
Mauricio Jaramillo Jassir, Colombia’s vice-minister of multilateral affairs, added: “Colombia cannot be indifferent in the face of apartheid and ethnic cleansing. In Bogotá, the assembled states will not only reaffirm our commitment to resist the genocide, but devise a series of specific measures to move from words to collective action.”
Some of those expecting to arrive in Colombia are nations and figures that are among the loudest and loyalist supporters of Palestine. The countries attending include Brazil, China, Turkey, Algeria, Spain, Indonesia, and Ireland, alongside UN officials such as Francesca Albanese and Philippe Lazzarini.
The summit follows months of mounting action. South Africa filed a genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Malaysia and Namibia blocked arms shipments to Israel; Colombia severed diplomatic ties with Israel. The Hague Group now seeks to coordinate efforts under a unified framework.
Group coordinator Varsha Gandikota-Nellutla said the initiative responds to non-compliance of states with binding international legal obligations, especially in light of Western resistance to International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrants and Israel’s defiance of ICJ rulings.
