Joseph Aoun, the president of Lebanon, has seemingly ruled out the possibility of normalisation with Israel, which occupies areas of Lebanon’s south, Middle East Eye via AFP reported on July 11th.

The president drew a distinction “between peace and normalisation”, a statement shared by the presidency on July 11th read. Aoun said that normalisation is not at present, an element of his country’s “foreign policy.”

Aoun urged Israel to retreat from five areas in south Lebanon near the country’s Israel-occupied border. Since 1948, Syria and Lebanon have reportedly been at war with Israel.
