The UN special rapporteur for the West Bank and Gaza has hit back over sanctions she is facing from the Trump administration, claiming they indicate guilt, The Guardian plus agencies reported on July 11th.

The rapporteur, Francesca Albanese, said on X that “the powerful punishing those who speak for the powerless . . . is not a sign of strength, but of guilt.”

On July 9th, the state department placed sanctions on Albanese in a bid to restrict criticism of Israel’s war on Gaza. Albanese had called on the international community to focus on the Gaza crisis and had highlighted the impact of the Gaza conflict.
