Lebanon: Islamic State arrests prompt debate on security threats

Political and security figures in Lebanon are in disagreement over the risks presented by Islamic State (IS) group-related arrests, The New Arab reported on July 11th.
Some officials believe there is a clear security risk, while others indicate that the comeback of the group is being overstated for political reasons.
Ex-Lebanese Defence Minister Yacoub Sarraf said that IS still presents a risk for national security, even if it is not active under the “Islamic State” name. But General George Nader, a retired Lebanese army Brigadier, suggested that the group cannot endanger “Lebanon’s internal peace.”
