Russia denies torture of Ukrainians amidst UN inquiry
A United Nations inquiry found that Russia has been torturing Ukrainians in parts of the country that has been invaded by the global superpower, according to Reuters, September 25.
The Chair of the Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine, Erik Mose, told the world body’s Human Rights Council that there has been “widespread” and “systematic” use of torture against Ukrainian civilians by Russian soldiers in areas that have been occupied by the country.
Russia, who deny such crimes against humanity, were given licence to defend themselves against the allegations however no Russian delegate was present at the council hearing.
