NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte warned countries like China, India, and Brazil that they could face sweeping secondary sanctions if they keep trading with Russia while refusing to pressure Moscow into peace talks with Ukraine, according to AL24 News on July 16.

Flanked by U.S. Senators Thom Tillis and Jeanne Shaheen, Rutte threatened that “This might hit you very hard.” His remarks followed a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, who on July 14th, threatened to impose 100% secondary tariffs on Russia if a peace deal is not reached in 50 days.

This 50-day deadline also applies to Russia’s aforementioned trading partners. Rutte also affirmed that the U.S. will supply Ukraine with massive amounts of weapons, paid for by their European allies, ensuring Kyiv is in a strong position when the talks begin.
