Libya: 700 Sudanese deported in ongoing migration crackdown

Libya’s Anti-Illegal Immigration Department in Benghazi has announced the deportation of 700 immigrants from Sudan, according to the Libya Review on July 20th.
The deportation is part of a crackdown on migration in Libya, and included individuals facing legal judgements or smuggling charges, apprehended in southeastern and central regions of Libya.
Sudan has been in a violent civil war since 2023, and because it borders Libya, thousands of refugees have been fleeing there, adding to the migration strain Libya is under due to the northern border being a transit route to Europe.
