US, Turkey push Syrian Kurds to merge with Syria’s government

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have been given a 30-day deadline by the US and Turkey to merge with Syria’s government, according to Middle East Eye on July 21st.
Mazloum Abdi, the head of the SDF, agreed to a deal in March with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, which outlined the integration of the forces as well as its agencies into the government of Syria.
But progress towards integration has been disrupted as the SDF and other Kurdish groups have called for autonomy and have challenged the idea of integrating under Syria’s defence ministry.
