The US on July 22nd enforced sanctions on what it described as a Houthi-associated petroleum smuggling and sanctions avoidance group, indicating a crackdown on the Houthis, according to The New Arab via Reuters.

In a statement, the US Treasury Department said the five entities and two people who were sanctioned on July 22nd were part of the key importers of petroleum goods and money launderers, which the militant group benefits from.

Michael Faulkender, the Treasury’s Deputy Secretary, said: “These networks of shady businesses underpin the Houthis’ terrorist machine, and Treasury will use all tools at its disposal to disrupt these schemes.”
