Sudan’s Ministry of health revealed that a total of 1,307 new cholera cases, including 18 deaths, were recorded across the country within the space of a week, according to AL24 news on July 23rd.

The ministry announced that “between July 12 and July 18, we recorded 1,307 cholera cases and 18 deaths across 35 localities in twelve states.” 519 cases of infection were reported in the Tawila locality of North Darfur. The Bileil locality in South Darfur recorded the most deaths across Sudan.

According to the ministry, the total number of cholera cases in Sudan since July 2024 has reached 91,034, which has led to 2,302 deaths in 116 localities in 17 states. Sudan is currently in the grips of a widespread outbreak of diseases associated with the rainy season, most notably malaria, cholera and dengue fever. The situation is at risk of worsening even further due to the mass return of refugees to remote areas of the country.
