Saudi Arabia allegedly prohibits activists from exiting country

Saudi Arabia is prohibiting large amounts of its citizens from exiting the country in a bid to silence dissent, according to human rights activists, The Guardian reported on July 24th.
Leading women’s rights activists, such as Loujain al-Hathloul, who urged for the right of Saudi women to drive and Maryam al-Otaibi – one out of the three sisters targeted by authorities for their collective activism, have seemingly been handed extensive travel bans.
The alleged government clampdown comes against a backdrop of the country trying to promote its tourism and its staging of sports and culture events, such as the 2034 men’s Fifa World Cup.
