Lebanon intends to disarm Hezbollah by end of 2025

The Lebanese cabinet on August 5th assigned the army with the task of creating a road map to disarm Hezbollah by the end of 2025, following strong US pressure for the group to lay down its arms, according to Al-Monitor.
The cabinet had a meeting about disarming Hezbollah on August 5th, which lasted almost six hours, that was led by President Joseph Aoun.
The Lebanese militant group is reportedly the sole faction that maintained its weapons following Lebanon’s 1975-1990 civil war. The group’s move was an expression of resistance against Israel – the country that occupied south Lebanon until 2000.
