The Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has given a strong condemnation of Israel’s war on Gaza at a press conference on August 5th, describing it as a “war of starvation, genocide, and liquidation of the Palestinian cause,” according to Africanews via AFP.

He appealed to other country leaders, including U.S President Donald Trump, to push for a ceasefire, with Egypt positioning itself as a mediator in ceasefire talks.

The closure of the Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza has sparked a protest against the Egyptian government, but Sisi stated at the press conference that more than 5,000 aid trucks from Egypt are being obstructed by Israeli forces, denying Egypt’s complicity in the blockade.
