At least 54 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza strip on January 2nd, due to Israeli air strikes. This includes 11 people in a tent camping area, which is providing shelter for displaces families, according to medics.

These 11 people include women and children from the Al-Mawasi district, which was a humanitarian area for civilians during the war with Israel and Gaza’s Hamas group, Asharq Al-Awsat via Reuters reports. It is reportedly now in its 15th month of being a humanitarian area.

The director general of Gaza’s police department, Mahmoud Salah was also killed in the airstrikes, the Hamas-led Gaza interior ministry said.

On January 2nd, separate Israeli airstrikes killed at least four people in Jala Street, downtown Gaza and two people in the Zeitoun district, medics report.
