The ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel will continue to be upheld until February 18th, under monitoring by the US, the White House said on January 26th, according to The National via Reuters

“The Government of Lebanon, the Government of Israel and the Government of the United States will also begin negotiations for the return of Lebanese prisoners captured after October 7, 2023,” the White House said in a statement.

The two-month ceasefire was brokered by the US and France, and signed between Israel and Lebanon on November 27th.

The agreement required that both Israel and Hezbollah would withdraw from the border region, and that the Lebanese military would oversee the area. The ceasefire aims to stop the clashes between Hezbollah and Israeli forces, which led to an extensive war in late 2024.
When residents of the border area were meant to return back to their homes, Israel launched a series of airstrikes, killing a minimum of 22, the Lebanese Health Ministry has said.

Both Israel and Hezbollah have accused one another of causing the hold-up in fulfilling the agreement. On January 24th, Israel said it would maintain its troops across the border in south Lebanon beyond January 27th. But after the recent Israeli strikes, the sustainability of the ceasefire has been called into question.
