The United Arab Emirates (UAE) called on February 11th for a Sudan ceasefire during the holy month of Ramadan, according to a UAE official, with the request being rejected by the Sudanese army as the country’s civil-war is nearing two years, according to The New Arab via Reuters.

Sudan’s army considers the UAE an instigator of the war, claiming it has provided arms to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, which UN experts and US lawmakers have said is a credible claim. But the UAE has denied these accusations.

The Sudan war has created the world’s biggest humanitarian catastrophe, with more than 12 million people being displaced, half the population experiencing hunger and a worsening lack of cohesion in the country.
