Israeli army to remain in evacuated West Bank camps for many months
Israel said on February 23rd that its troops would stay in refugee camps in the occupied West Bank for many months, following the displacement of tens of thousands of Palestinians by an escalating army operation, according to the Al-Monitor via AFP.
The military started a significant attack against Palestinian militants in the north of the West Bank last month, shortly after a truce became effective in the Gaza Strip, which is a separate Palestinian territory.
The offensive in the West Bank has slowly widened, spanning across several refugee camps, close to Jenin, Tulkarem and Tubas. In a statement, Defence Minister Israel Katz said the Jenin, Tulkarem and Nur Shams camps “are now empty of residents.”
