Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has faced demands from the far-right to reject a Hamas-backed temporary ceasefire, according to The New Arab on August 19th.

Hamas agreed to a 60-day ceasefire, mediated by Egypt and Qatar, to prevent a major Israeli offensive and return hostages.

The far-right ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir, urged Netanyahu to continue the war until Hamas is fully defeated. Netanyahu has not responded officially, but has insisted on a comprehensive deal, which outlines the complete disarmament of Hamas and the occupation of Gaza.
