Israeli figures imply that 83% of Palestinians killed in Gaza are civilians, revealing a shockingly high ratio of civilians to combatants unprecedented in modern conflicts, The New Arab reported on August 22nd.

The amount of casualties originated from a database overseen by the Israeli Military Intelligence Directorate, that keeps an account of the deaths of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad fighters.

When the military data is put against figures from Gaza’s Ministry of Health for the total number of Palestinians killed since the beginning of the conflict by May this year, which is 53,000, the data reveals that 83% of the people killed in the enclave are civilians.
