During the Gaza conflict Israel has continued to obstruct ceasefire agreements with Hamas, even when the group agreed to its demands, Middle East Eye via Israel’s Channel 13 reported on August 23rd.

In Channel 13’s HaMakor programme, US and Israeli officials were interviewed. They said that Israel had thwarted a ceasefire deal on seven different occasions during the war on Gaza.

According to the officials, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was the main reason behind the thwarted agreements, as he would often succumb to the political influence of far-right ministers, such as National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.
