An international hunger monitor was asked by Israel on July 27th to retract a report which identified that famine is taking place in Gaza City and nearby areas, according to Al-Monitor via Reuters.

On August 22nd, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) system said that 514,000 people have been affected by famine, with the figure expected to increase to 641,000 by September 30th.

Israel has more than once claimed that such information is untrue. Eden Bar Tal, the Foreign Ministry’s director general asked for the report to be retracted until the IPC finishes a review.
