UN rights chief under pressure to call Gaza conflict genocide

Hundreds of staff at the United Nations have asked the organisation’s human rights chief, Volker Turk, to describe the Gaza conflict as a genocide, The New Arab via Reuters reported on August 28th.
According to the letter which was sent on August 27th, the staff members believe that the legal threshold for genocide has been reached in the Gaza conflict, due to the extent, nature and intentions of the violations recorded in Gaza.
The letter said “OHCHR [United Nations Human Rights Office Of The High Commissioner] has a strong legal and moral responsibility to denounce acts of genocide” and urged the rights chief to express a “clear and public position.”
