Moroccan activist: Shock-value slogan does not address Islam

The Moroccan activist Ibtissam Lachgar has said that her use of a controversial slogan about “Allah” does not address the Islamic faith, as covered by Maghrebi Week on September 8th.

Lachgar wore a T-shirt bearing the controversial slogan and posted a picture of herself wearing the item on X, and was as a result handed a 30-month jail sentence. She has stressed the phrase “had no direct connection with the Islamic religion.”

The activist asserted that her intention behind wearing the T-shirt was to denounce how religions are instrumentalized by misogyny which ultimately challenges women’s rights.
