UN suspends humanitarian work in Yemeni region
The United Nations on February 10th announced the suspension of all humanitarian work in the Houthis-controlled region of Saada in Yemen, following the detention of eight UN workers, The National via Reuters reported on February 10th.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has called for all UN agencies, funds and programmes to stop operations in Saada governorate over a deficiency of crucial security guarantees, according to deputy spokesman Farhan Haq.
Haq said: “This extraordinary and temporary measure seeks to balance the imperative to stay and deliver with the need to have the safety and security of the UN personnel and its partners guaranteed.”
