Tunisia host Big Tech Africa to inspire investment and sustainability

Tunisia is hosting a three-day forum known as Big Tech Africa, welcoming over 100 startups from 30 nations, according to Africanews on September 11th.
The second edition of the African Exhibition for Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Startups aims to augment its reputation as the continent’s leading digital event, in a period where African nations are increasingly looking to harness their digital potential.
The event also aims to position Africa as a hub for investment, innovation, and business opportunities as countries liberalise their economic frameworks and become more open towards foreign direct investment.
More than 30 international investors specialising in startup funding are expected to attend, according to the head of the forum’s organising committee, which would be the first time that has happened.
This is not the first investment event Tunisia has hosted this year, after it was announced that it will host the inaugural Invest in Africa 2025 economic forum, which primarily focuses on enticing Italian firms to explore Tunisia as a hub for African investment.
Tunisia’s focus on foreign direct investment in recent years has helped to mobilise the economy, with an increase in foreign direct investment of 21% in 2024. The country’s role in supporting new investment projects in North Africa has been highlighted, with the region recording a 12% increase in investments.
Hosting Big Tech Africa facilitates Tunisia’s ambition to emphasise its technological and investment opportunities, as most of the forum’s 200 exhibitors are Tunisian.
The event also presents innovators with a significant networking opportunity for startups.
Big Tech Africa also focuses on the intersection between technology, innovation, and sustainability, a topic that has garnered increasing support in the region.
Tunisia has embarked on several sustainability-driven projects that focus on harnessing the country’s solar potential. The Kairouan solar plant is expected to generate 230 GWh annually and will contribute significantly to the aim of increasing the share of renewable energy to 30% by 2030.
