Mali finally responds to ongoing jihadist issues

Al-Qaeda linked jihadist groups have been causing persistent issues in Mali with little response from the junta leadership, however now oil is at threat, Mali’s military have been forced to act, MaghrebiWeek reported on September 15th.
The jihadist group named JNIM recently imposed an oil blockade on key regions that surround Mali’s capital, Bamako- the militants have reportedly been setting fire to fuel tankers, attacking key infrastructure, and even targeted gold mines in Kayes.
In response, Mali conducted airstrikes on key militant positions which apparently led to the release of some civilian hostages.
