Libyan government strikes deal with powerful militia

The Tripoli-based, western-backed Government of National Unity has struck a critical deal with the militia group Special Deterrence Force, also known as Rada, as reported in Maghrebi Week.
The agreement facilitates new security arrangements in the capital of Tripoli, which has threatened to be the centre of political violence and conflict. Special Deterrence Forces will also withdraw from key strategic positions including Mitiga airport, helping to ease the pressure on beleaguered Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah.
Turkish mediation played a pivotal role in the agreement, predominantly due to Turkey’s relationships with multiple factions within Libya, helping to bridge the divides that plague Libya to this day.
