UN: Israeli settlement push removes chances of Palestinian state

Israel’s E1 settlement plan, which would see an expansion of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, has sparked concerns from UN
Secretary-General António Guterres, as covered by Maghrebi Week on September 22nd.
Guterres said the plan would split the West Bank and endanger the prospect of a neighbouring state of Palestine. The plan would see occupied East Jerusalem isolated while Ramallah and Bethlehem would be separated from each other.
Observers have made a comparison between the division of Palestinian territories to the “Bantustans” of South Africa in the apartheid-era, which were ghettos for the black community.
