Morocco’s youth riots put neighboring countries under strain

As Morocco’s youth riots rage on for the fourth consecutive day, Editor-in-Chief of Maghrebi.org and RT contributor Martin Jay warns that the fire is catching. In an interview with RT on October 1, Jay explains tensions have reached a boiling point, with videos surfacing of law enforcement ramming cars into demonstrators.
The protests erupted amid Morocco’s ongoing development initiatives ahead of the FIFA World Cup, which it is set to host in 2030. Ā With announcements of new stadiums “which have better healthcare facilities…than most Moroccan hospitals, you can understand why people flare up,” says Jay.
“The real question now is: is this youth movement going to permeate into other Arab countries, and I’m absolutely certain it’s something that the Gulf Royal families will be looking at very closely.”
