Israel’s war on Gaza has killed or wounded one in ten

One out of every 10 Gazans has either been wounded or killed during Israel’s war on Gaza, according to France 24 with AP on October 7th.
Over 64,700 people are believed to have been killed by Israel’s military operation since it began on October 7th, 2023, while at least 163,859 others have suffered wounds.
However, the impact on children has been especially devastating, with at least 21,000 children in Gaza becoming disabled as a result of injuries sustained during Israel’s war on Gaza.

Out of every 100 children, four have lost either one or both parents, while many others have been forced to live in tents after their homes have been destroyed by Israeli strikes.
A famine was declared in Gaza by UN-backed experts with Save the Children expressing concerns that children in Gaza were gradually dying as a result of severe malnutrition.
Inger Ashing, the head of Save the Children, said during a UN Security Council meeting: “our clinics are almost silent. Now, children do not have the strength to speak or even cry out in agony. They lie there, emaciated, quite literally wasting away.”
The UN-sponsored Global Protection Cluster reported on July 15th that 10 children in Gaza are losing one or both of their limbs each day due to Israeli attacks, with many undergoing the surgery without any form of pain relief due to shortages of medical supplies caused by Israel’s blockade of the Strip.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, over 17,000 children have been killed since Israel’s military operation began two years ago.
One in 10 children screened at Gaza clinics were found to be suffering from malnutrition. Director of communications at the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), Juliette Touma said: “Our health teams are confirming that malnutrition rates are increasing in Gaza, especially since the [Israeli] siege was tightened more than four months ago on the second of March.”
In December 2024, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said: “Gaza now has the highest number of child amputees per capita anywhere in the world—many losing limbs and undergoing surgeries without even anaesthesia.”
The war has also impacted the education of thousands of children in Gaza, who have been denied an education for the third consecutive year, with nearly 90% of all schools in Gaza having been either damaged or completely destroyed. An estimated 788,000 students have been out of education since October 7th 2023, while 352 public schools have been damaged, along with 20 higher education institutions.
Students in the Occupied West Bank have also faced barriers to accessing education, as eight universities and 152 schools in the West Bank have been stormed; these attacks appear to be part of an escalating campaign of violence against Palestinians living in the West Bank.
