Pressure mounts on Palestinian Authority to reform
The Palestinian Authority (PA) is under pressure to reform, which in time could lead to it prevailing over Hamas and governing Gaza, according to a British academic, as covered by Maghrebi Week on October 13th.
Dr Simon Waldman, who is a teacher at the Department of War Studies and the Defence Studies Department of Kings College London, told Maghrebi: “The Palestinian Authority is facing pressure to reform . . . to get more efficient, weed out the nepotism and corruption which means it could be a viable political alternative to Hamas.”
Waldman cautioned that parts of the UN’s Palestinian refugee agency (UNRWA), an agency delivering health and education services to Palestinians, is pro-Hamas.
