On October 28th, the National Syndicate of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT) has denounced the government’s attacks on press freedom, characterised by “mounting censorship ” and “a rise in threats” against Tunisian journalists, according to the New Arab and agencies.

The union denounced the authorities’ “restrictions, harassment, and exclusion” that are meant to limit the media’s freedom and to control their content by reducing their access to information of public interest.

Journalists have been bared from attending the president’s political trial against his opponents, and filming permits to foreign correspondents were refused, which the SNJT says constitutes the leaders’ will “to undermine the very essence of free journalism and turn the media into tools of propaganda”.
