The EU has called on Libya’s leaders to deescalate the conflict in the country by forming a new government.

This comes after tribal leaders refused to form a government and have asked for parliamentary elections to take place first, reports Asharq Al-Awsat and agencies.

The leaders met on August 24 in Misrata, situated in the northwest of Libya.

The European Union’s Ambassador to Libya, Jose Sabadell, stressed the support the EU has for Libya as well as discussing Europe’s strategy towards resolving the crisis.

Mr. Sabadell recently met with leaders in the country as his term as ambassador draws to a close.
