Libya LNA fends off Chad offensive on border
Khalifa Haftar’s Libyan National Army has launched a military operation with the objective of securing the southern border.
The Libyan National Army (LNA) announced the plans for the operation on August 25 as the conflict between Chad’s government and a rebel group attempting to topple it, continued near the border, reports Reuters, August 25.
A turmoil-stricken country in the Maghreb region that sees stop-start conflict, Libya is split into two. The country’s civil war resulted in the establishment of two rival administrations in the east and the west.
The Libyan National Army represents the eastern part of the country, with its base in Benghazi and under the control of a parliament.
The LNA expelled members of Chad’s opposition and their families from a residential area they were using around 300 kilometres north of the border with Chad.
Libya is also fighting against what it sees as an occupation from the Turks. The Turks have already based themselves in key parts of the country such as Al-Watiya Airbase, Sidi Bilal Port and the Khoms Port.

An unnamed Libyan armed group called for an uprising against the occupation and have stated that all Turk-occupied regions of Libya, including the capital city, Tripoli, were legitimate targets for them.
Tripoli continues to be supported by the UN and is backed by Turkey militarily and financially as chaos in Libya continues to flourish.
