Morocco monitors Gabonese situation following coup

Morocco is closely following  developments in Gabon as the country plunged into turmoil following a coup which led to the unseating of Gabonese President, Ali Bongo Ondimba on August 30. 

Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates said in a statement, “The Kingdom of Morocco stresses the importance of preserving the stability of this brotherly country (Gabon) and the tranquility of its people.”, reports Middle East Online and agencies. 

The coup in the Central African country broke out following elections in which Ondimba was declared victorious and given a mandate to serve for a third term as President.
