Despite widespread news reports and social media posts, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Pestana CR7 Marrakech hotel did not become a shelter for victims of the devastating earthquake that struck Morocco on September 8.

A report from Reuters on September 15, based on a statement received from the Pestana Hotel Group, clarifies that the hotel “was not affected by the earthquake. It has accommodated many guests who were originally staying in other hotels in different areas of the city and were seeking new accommodation.”

The email from the hotel group also stated, “It is not accurate to claim that the hotel is functioning as a shelter or hosting refugees.”

The rumor was initially posted by Marca, a Spanish football-focused media outlet, and subsequently reported by several other media organizations, including The New Arab, who later updated their post to debunk the news.
