UN to save Libya’s central bank calamity from escalating
Following a banking crisis in Libya which saw just recently the central bank governor flee the country, the UN has stepped in to stop the country heading towards civil war once again.
According to Reuters, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya said it held talks in Tripoli on September 2nd to help calm tensions that sparked a blockade of oil production and threatens the worst crisis in years for the major energy exporter.
The recent problems with the central bank stem from when Western factions moved last month to oust veteran governor Sadiq Al-Kabir and replace him with a rival board, leading Eastern factions to shut down all oil production.
