Algeria on track to triple its rail network by 2030
Algeria is on target to triple its rail network by 2030 in a move to boost national economic growth and increase regional connectivity according to AP news on October 31.
With more than 5,000 kilometres of rail already in service, new lines such as that between Kenchela and Constantine will provide faster travel, connecting communities and creating economic opportunities.

This expansion will also integrate strategic freight and passenger lines, reducing road congestion and improving access to remote areas.

The development comes in line with the news in August that China would help to fund over 6,000 kilometres of railway lines as part of the Chinese Belt and Road initiative (BRI) which is aimed at boosting global trade by improving infrastructure and connectivity.
A further aim of the Chinese investment is to help facilitate the exploitation of remote Algerian mines.
