Morocco will invest an additional 14 billion dollars to expand and develop their railway networks and airports.

According to North Africa Post on January 24th ,around 5.3 billion dollars will be spent on a high-speed rail link between Kenitra and Marrakech said the transport minister.

Morocco plans to connect 43 cities with the rail network by 2040, this is a significantly up from the only 23 Moroccan cities that are currently connected, this greater interconnection will benefit approximately 87% of the population.

Under this same plan, 12 airports and 12 ports will be connected to this enhanced rail network.

Arabian Gulf Business Insight reports works have already begun connecting Nador West Med port with the rail network, Kayouh stated.

The investment aims to strengthen the country’s airports, turning Morocco into a global gateway.

As well as this, these investments intend to modernise major airports in the region.

One such airport is set to be the Casablanca airport, which will be upgraded to accommodate approximately 44 million passengers every year.

Royal Air Maroc, Morocco’s largest airline, are also set to expand to meet the rising travel demand.

Morocco has reported a 20% annual increase in tourists through to the end of November 2024, hosting around 16 million visitors.

The Moroccan government aims to have 17.5 million annual visitors by 2026, and 26 million by 2030, as the country co-hosts the Fifa World Cup.
