Moroccan trade unions have announced a general strike to protest a new law which they say will eliminate the right to strike altogether.

According to Atalayar, the first general strike since 2016 will take on February 5th and 6th, after unions walked out of a parliamentary session where the strike bill was to be approved.

Khaled El Houair El Alami, deputy secretary general of the Democratic Confederation of Labour said: “The law on strikes aims to tie the hands of workers in various sectors and silence those affected, and we are here to put pressure on the government to reverse this law that attacks the heart of the constitution.”
