France and Morocco have partnered with several other international partners aimed at developing systems to assess the social and environmental impact of AI according to Atalayar on 12 February.

The project, called ‘Current AI’ looks to raise around $2.5bn over the next five years along with African partners Nigeria and Kenya, as well as Germany, Finland, Chile, Slovenia and Switzerland.

France and Morocco hope that the AI initiative will strengthen their historically strong ties by expanding their bilateral collaboration in key areas of new technology, with a focus being given to artificial intelligence.

Speaking at the Hassan I University in Settat, the president of the Moroccan National Human Rights Council (CNDH) called for a national strategy focused on growing AI opportunities to be developed in the country as he hopes that it can boost Morocco’s technological development.

Last January, whilst speaking in Doha in Western Sahara, a Moroccan delegation put forward their proposed plans for an Arab initiative to improve and increase the use of artificial intelligence in the education sector.

Morocco’s Secretary General of the Minister of Education, Younes Shimi, spoke of the countries plans to integrate AI into the education system as he attempts to rectify the growing issue of school dropouts and improve the overall academic performance.

The plans for integrating AI into the education system come as part of wider educational reforms that are already being actioned by the government.

Shimi insists that teachers will be trained in AI in order to improve their skills and allow the students to receive the best possible technological training.

The aim of the 2021 – 2026 government is to achieve ‘a quality public school for all’ as they complete their 2022 – 2026 ‘roadmap’.

The government hope that by integrating the use of AI into the education system, they can expedite their progress and provide the country with the educational reforms that they have proposed.
