Algeria hit by 5.1 magnitude earthquake

Algeria has been hit by an earthquake of 5.1 magnitude, striking the northwestern region of Mihoub in the Medea province.
According to Morocco World News, The earthquake struck on March 18th at 10:50 a.m.
Those in the capital and surrounding provinces felt the tremor, causing panic to residents.
The earthquake caused no deaths and no significant damage to buildings.
Tremors were felt by residents of Algiers, and by those in neighboring provinces such as Blida, Bouira, Medea, Tizi-Ouzou, and Boumerdes.
Teams have been deployed in order to inspect the safety infrastructure, ensuring the safety of citizens.
Algeria’s Civil Protection said that their units are currently undertaking “reconnaissance operations in the provinces that felt the earthquake.”
North Africa is hit by earthquakes fairly frequently, including the infamous Atlas mountain earthquake which devastated rural communities in Morocco in 2023.
Whilst 5.1 earthquakes are on the lower end of the Richter scale, they can still cause destruction and sometimes deaths.
