Burkina Faso and Niger support Morocco’s autonomy plan
Burkina Faso and Niger have reaffirmed support for Moroccan sovereignty over the Western Sahara, according to the Moroccan government-friendly North Africa Post and agencies on December 2nd.
Support was expressed following separate meetings in Rabat with the foreign ministers of the two countries, Burkina Faso’s Karamoko Jean-Marie TraorĂ© and Niger’s Bakary Yaou SangarĂ©, as well as their Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita.
Niger previously expressed support for the plan on November 20th, which would grant the Western Sahara limited self-governance under Moroccan sovereignty. The plan, also known as Resolution 2797, was recognised as a “feasible solution” by the UN Security Council on October 31st.
