Burkina Faso and Niger support Morocco’s autonomy plan

Burkina Faso and Niger have reaffirmed support for Moroccan sovereignty over the Western Sahara, according to the Moroccan government-friendly North Africa Post and agencies on December 2nd.

Support was expressed following separate meetings in Rabat with the foreign ministers of the two countries, Burkina Faso’s Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré and Niger’s Bakary Yaou Sangaré, as well as their Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita.

Niger previously expressed support for the plan on November 20th, which would grant the Western Sahara limited self-governance under Moroccan sovereignty. The plan, also known as Resolution 2797, was recognised as a “feasible solution” by the UN Security Council on October 31st.
