Morocco works on reintegrating Sahrawi refugees
Morocco is currently working on refining its proposal for Western Sahara’s autonomy, and a key issue is how to reintegrate Sahrawis and former separatists into the framework, according to Hespress on 8th December.
Refugee conditions in Tindouf, near the Algerian border, have come under increased scrutiny. In a November speech, King Mohammed VI acknowledged them as Moroccan citizens and called for them to reunite with their families.
However, academics have highlighted several challenges, including how to reintegrate activists who previously fought against Morocco and how to verify the identity of those seeking to return.
