Netherlands backs Moroccan autonomy plan in Western Sahara
The Netherlands has supported Moroccan sovereignty over the disputed Western Sahara territory, according to the Moroccan government-friendly North Africa Post and agencies on December 7th.
This stance came following a December 5th meeting at The Hague with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Dutch counterpart David Van Weel, after which a Joint Statement confirming support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan was released.
Under Moroccan sovereignty, the Western Sahara would be granted limited self-governance. Also known as Resolution 2797, the plan was recognised as a “feasible solution” by the UN Security Council on October 31st.
