Somalia says it killed 29 al-Shabaab militants
Somalia’s armed forces have eliminated 29 al-Shabaab militants in the town of Jabad Godane in the country’s southeast, with international support, according to a Defence Ministry statement on January 1st, Reuters reported.
The ministry also said on X that it destroyed vehicles and weapons “intended for use in terrorist attacks against civilians” during overnight airstrikes in the Middle Shabelle region.
Al-Shabaab has been fighting Somalia’s internationally backed central government since 2007 to establish its own rule based on a strict version of sharia law.
