Lebanon arrests Syrian suspected of funding Assad’s loyalists
Lebanese authorities have detained a Syrian citizen suspected of financially supporting loyalists of former Syrian President Basher al-Assad in Syria, according to a report by Asharq Al-Awsat on 14th January.
Ahmad Dunia was placed in custody in the Jbeil region, north of Beirut, charged with links to Assad’s cousin Rami Makhlouf and a former Syrian army general who fled Syria after the fall of Assad’s regime in December 2024.
Police claim Dunia has been sending money to Assad’s supporters in Syria, labelling him as the “financial arm” of Makhlouf.
