Sudan’s population in dire need of aid, says UN
Two out of three people in Sudan are in dire need of humanitarian aid, according to Tom Fletcher, the U.N. humanitarian affairs and relief chief, as reported by the Associated Press on November 12th.
In a phone interview from Darfur, Fletcher said, “The access we need is far too limited by the conflict,” as aid groups have struggled to deliver much-needed resources to communities.
Since April 2023, the country has been gripped by a civil war between the Sudanese military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The conflict has displaced at least 10 million people, with many fleeing to overcrowded refugee camps where food, water and medical care are scarce.
